TERRY’S ISLAND

TELLINGS OF THE TIMELINES, TITLES, TALES AND TRUTHS

Just beyond the early morning fog lies a Land of Legend, here long before man.

Here is one of it’s many stories…

TERRY’S ISLAND: The Gathering Ground of the 1873 “Band Wagon”

Once upon many times ago, from Noah and the Great Flood to the predictions that might have been in yesterday’s news media, was an historical series of events, though NOT including “The End of Time”, that virtually ended the NOT really so golden ”Gilded Age” and seemed near to events described in Biblical Books of “Daniel” and “Revelation”

Prologue: Beating the drum, or rises and falls in the tempo…

Surely, if someone beats a drum… some will follow.  Often, others will join in with their own instruments, although they might play a slightly different tune.

Often, it becomes a grand parade… until the music stops, or the majority lose interest, or for some reason are not in concert with the music anymore.

Thus, might be described the events that abound in the 1800’s regarding such as “Revivalism”,  “Millennialism”, the beginnings and scope of the Mormons, the Millerites, and most notedly “The Timists” all of which are of prime importance in the “Roles of Religion” during certain periods of ownership of the Island…

Come join us for this ‘close to home’, meaningful presentation about the lives of the Camp Bethel Terry’s and kin, and the history of their Connecticut River home, and the 1873 event held there.

The program is to be presented by the isle’s historian Bill Fournier as a part of the culmination of 17 his year research and the 150th year anniversary of the 1873 predicted “End” hosted by the Terry’s on the Island.

This presentation is open to the public.  Anyone with an interest in Enfield history is welcome to attend.
